Legitimate ways to work remotely for overseas companies as a Chinese citizen
As I have investigated so far, there are at least two ways in which a Chinese citizen can legally work remotely for overseas companies:
- Independent
Contractor: One of the most common ways is to work as an
independent contractor or freelancer. In this case, I am not an employee
of the company, but I provide services based on a contract. I will be
responsible for managing my own taxes in China. It's essential to have a
well-defined contract that specifies the terms of the working
relationship.
- Outsourcing work to China: The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China provides a channel to allow Chinese companies to become international service providers, you can check the procedures by clicking this link. My friend’s software development company is legitimate to work as an international service provider from China, I can work for the international clients on behalf of the company. As for taxes, you pay taxes to your country and I for mine.
